Why a smart lock
No key handover, no key safe with one code everyone knows. A code per booking, valid from check-in to check-out, and a log of every opening.
Which lock
For a Dutch front door with a cylinder, a Nuki Smart Lock with Keypad is the most common: it fits over the existing cylinder, is installed in an hour and works with a free API token. Yale and Salto are alternatives for those who want a completely new lock.
Safely
Only send the code on the day of arrival, in the check-in email. Let it expire automatically after departure. Keep a spare key with a neighbour or in a safe only you know.
In Houslr
Connect your Nuki under Access. Every booking gets a code that automatically appears in the check-in email and is deleted after departure. Without a smart lock, QR access works with a demo lock, so you can see what it is like for the guest.
